Malamulele police station robbery trial set to begin on Monday


Ten men accused of robbing the Malamulele police station of firearms and ammunition in 2021 are expected to stand trial at the Polokwane High Court, Limpopo, on Monday.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, says the men allegedly stormed the police station, overpowered police officers, and robbed them of firearms kept in the safe at the station.

The men allegedly went on a spate of robberies in areas including Malamulele, Giyani, Bolobedu, Botlokwa, Bandelierkop in Limpopo and Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga. They allegedly robbed cash, cell phones and jewellery from shops.

The suspects were arrested in January 2022.

Malabi-Dzhangi says the trial has been set for three weeks.

“The trial of ten men accused of robbing firearms from Malamulele Police station and carrying out a series of armed robberies across Limpopo and Mpumalanga is resuming in the Polokwane High Court on 3 November 2025. They are facing 94 charges, including conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, attempted murder, murder, malicious damage to property, and possession of explosives.”
