Minister of Water and Sanitation Pemmy Majodina says the department is working closely with security to halt the scourge of water mafias across the country.
Majodina says local municipalities can no longer sustain water infrastructure due to sabotage and criminal syndicates in the sector.
She says the water ministry has secured R23 billion to fund 15 critical dam projects that were outlined during the 2025 budget speech.
Majodina was speaking ahead of the African Union AIP Water Investment Summit in Cape Town.
