MEC Lebogang Maile visiting Diepkloof
Gauteng Finance and Economic Development MEC Lebogang Maile says the level of disrespect and disregard for the law in running spaza shops is unacceptable.
Maile was speaking in Diepkloof in Soweto where he had visited the family of a 5-year-old boy who died from a suspected foodborne illness in Diepkloof, Soweto.
Three other children are still in hospital.
Maile says, “It is high time that we act decisively. The police took the documents and verified with Home Affairs. It was confirmed that they are legal. But being here legally does not mean you must run illegal operations. So, there’s no justification for what they have done.”
