Madlanga Commission hears Matlala audio on SAPS contract cancellation

The Madlanga Commission has played an audio recording of Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala on the day of his arrest this year, conversing to Witness C about his cancelled South African Police Service (SAPS) tender.

His R360 million SAPS tender was cancelled when Police Minister Senzo Mchunu came into office after it was flagged for irregularities.

In the recording, Matlala can be heard telling Witness C that he had written to Brown Mogotsi about an affidavit he made with the High Court where he would implicate Mchunu.

Witness C says, “And also that he is going to implicate the minister because of his criminality because the minister, after he had refused to open a case against the team or the police, then the police cancelled his contract with the SAPS. He had instructed (National Police Commissioner) General Fannie Masemola to cancel his contract.”

There will be no hearings on Friday and the commission will resume on Monday with a new witness.
