Madlanga Commission hears about Sibiya’s encounter with Matlala

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has heard about suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya‘s first encounter with attempted murder accused, Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.

Witness C has told the commission that Matlala told him that he and Sibiya met at the farm of late Pretoria taxi boss, Jothan ‘Mswazi’ Msibi. Msibi is believed to have been a member of the Big 5 cartel.

Witness C says Matlala informed him that it was Sibiya who approached him, requesting that he (Matlala) take care of him and he (Sibiya) would take care of him in return.

“Mr Matlala indicated that he understood that when General Sibiya asked him to take care of him, he meant that he should take care of him financially or to support him financially. So from there going forward, Mr Matlala would give payments to Lieutenant-General Sibiya, payments for around R500 000 at a time,” says Witness C.
