Brigadier Rachel Matjeng appearing before the Madlanga Commission
The Madlanga Commission has put it to Brigadier Rachel Matjeng that the amounts paid into her friend’s business account, Osizweni Butchery, were a form of gratification.
Evidence before the Commission has revealed that attempted murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala paid a total of R300 000 to Osizweni Butchery.
Brigadier Matjeng told the Commission that the money was a debt owed to the butchery by Matlala as he had bought meat for that amount.
But chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga has put it to Matjeng that the amounts paid to the Butchery were intended to secure her assistance to secure the SAPS contract.
“A plausible explanation for these payments R300 000 on what we see was actually what you say they were not. That is the payments were not. Is that not the plausible explanation? Because otherwise what you say does not make sense. In particular, why do you become a conjugate for Osizwe? When Mr Matlala was dealing directly with that business. So the plausible explanation for me was that this was actually a gratification.”
