Lusanda Mathabela murder accused intends to please not guilty

19-year-old Lungelo Sithole, accused of being involved in the murder of the 19-year-old Lusanda Mathabela in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, says he intends to plead not guilty.

Sithole was arrested together with his co-accused, Katlego Mokoena, after Mathabela was stabbed to death at her home in Mattafin late last year.

Sithole took to the stand and requested the court release him on bail.

Sithole appeared to be calm during his appearance in court. He took to the witness box and urged the court to grant him bail.

Sithole said he would be able to further his studies if he is granted bail. He also confirmed that he was arrested at the crime scene.

He claimed that when the incident occurred, he had accompanied his co-accused, Katlego Mokoena, to fetch his clothes from the deceased.

His bail application is expected to continue on Friday.
