The Limpopo Department of Transport says scholar transport operators will be given 60 days, starting from Monday, February 16, 2026, to finalise their operating documentation.
The department says during this period, unroadworthy vehicles, operators without proof of agreements with parents, as well as bakkies and trucks used to transport learners, will be impounded.
Department spokesperson Tshifhiwa Dali has urged operators to familiarise themselves with the process of applying for scholar transport permits.
“The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety is giving scholar transport operators 60 days to finalise their Operating Licence applications, effective from Monday, 16 February 2026. During this period, vehicle impoundment will only occur if operators are non-compliant with the following: unroadworthy vehicles, failure to produce parent contracts, indemnity forms, or school endorsement letters, using light delivery vehicles or bakkies to ferry learners and any other traffic law infringement.” – Reporting by Nsuku Shiluvana.
