Linda Gxasheka returns to the stand at the Madlanga Commission

Suspended Ekurhuleni Human Resources Head Linda Gxasheka will be back to testify before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria on Friday morning.

On Thursday, she denied allegations that she had failed to resolve a disciplinary issue against six officers from the Ekurhuleni Drug Enforcement unit.

Police watchdog, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), had arrested the officers for allegedly extorting R80 000 from a member of the public.

The officers were subsequently incorporated into Ekurhuleni’s VIP protection detail before being redeployed to the drug unit.

Gxasheka has testified that the matter involving the six officers working under suspended Deputy Police Chief Julius Mkhwanazi was never brought to her attention.

She also told the Inquiry that she only knew about the situation when it was spoken about at the Madlanga Commission.

Gxasheka is one of the top Ekurhuleni officials who has been accused of protecting Mkhwanazi from facing disciplinary action.

This after Mkhwanazi was implicated in corruption involving the unlawful fitting of blue lights in the private vehicles of Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
