Inside a court
A 44-year-old Limpopo teacher is expected to appear before the Makhado Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo this morning on sexual assault charges involving two minors.
The suspect appeared briefly in court on Tuesday after he was arrested last weekend.
He is alleged to have lured the children to his house where he undressed and forced them to touch his private parts.
Police spokesperson in Limpopo, Hlulani Mashaba, says the suspect will make a formal bail application.
“According to the reports that we got as we were investigating this case, we found out that the teacher took the children inside a house where he took off his clothes and instructed the children to touch his private area. Then after that, the children reported what happened and a case was opened.”
In a separate incident that took place in August in Tzaneen, the parents of a grade seven learner at Morutsi Primary School who was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 53-year-old teacher are demanding justice.

Meanwhile, earlier this year in May, Limpopo Provincial Police Commissioner Thembi Hadebe raised concerns about the increase in sexual assault cases of minors and underage children in the Waterberg and Mopani districts.
Hadebe said it’s alarming that some cases happen at school, where minor children are raped by their peers and adults.
She was speaking during a solidarity march against gender-based violence by the security cluster, civil society and NGOs in Polokwane.
