SA Police Service vehicle used in arrests of illegal miners
Five suspected illegal miners have been arrested at Atok and Ga-Phasha villages outside Burgersfort in Limpopo.
Police spokesperson Masekela Magoro says a driver was arrested for allegedly illegally transporting chrome at Atok. A truck has also been confiscated.
The driver was also found to be an undocumented immigrant.
Magoro also says four others were arrested at Ga-Phasha.
They will also be charged with contravening immigration laws.
In a statement, Magoro says: “These operations underscore the police’s ongoing commitment to combating illegal mining activities and immigration violations. The police will continue to work tirelessly to uphold the rule of law and protect our natural resources.”
