Limpopo police nab over 600 suspects in Operation Shanela


Limpopo police say over 600 suspects have been arrested for various crimes during Operation Shanela in various parts of the province. 

Police spokesperson Malesela Ledwaba says the suspects have been arrested for criminal activities, including rape, attempted murder, and amongst others.  

Ledwaba says they’ve also recovered suspected stolen items and illegal firearms. 

“The arrests were effected for offences including contravention of the Immigration Act, possession of counterfeit goods, illegal possession of cigarettes, possession and dealing in drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, possession of dangerous weapons, robbery, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), rape, assault common, business burglary.”

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, welcomed the successes and commended the remarkable collaboration among all role players in the ongoing fight against crime.
