Police are searching for an awaiting trial prisoner who escaped from custody on Friday after appearing at the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo.
Twenty-four-year-old Thembinkosi Gift Mabunda from Hasani Mbalati village was with four other inmates, but he failed to get into the truck transporting them.
Police Spokesperson Stephen Thakeng says they are investigating the circumstances around his escape.
“Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered police to utilize the available resources to search for the awaiting trial prisoner, Thembinkosi Gift Mabunda, who allegedly escaped from police custody after court appearance at Malamulele, who faces multiple charges including carjacking. Charges to be added are charges of escaping from lawful custody and aiding prisoner to escape,” says Thakeng.
