A 31-year-old man is expected to appear before the Thabamoopo Magistrate’s Court in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo after he was found with illicit cigarettes worth R250 000.
The suspect is facing a charge of possession of illicit cigarettes.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, says the police arrested the suspect while he was transporting the cigarettes at Ga-Chuene near Lebowakgomo on Thursday.
Thakeng says the suspect was arrested after he failed to provide proof of the origin of the cigarettes.
“While busy conducting crime prevention, officers spotted the suspicious silver grey Toyota bakkie with Gauteng province registration number traveling along public road at along the D4040 public road at Ga-Chuene village. The 31-year-old foreign national was found in possession of cigarettes of Remington Gold brand with an estimated street value of 250,000,” says Thakeng.
