Limpopo, Mpumalanga floods declared national disaster


Government has officially declared a National Disaster following severe weather conditions in parts of the country.

Heavy rains have caused severe floods which have damaged homes and infrastructure.

The cost of repairing the damage is reported to be running into billions of rands.

In Limpopo and Mpumalanga 31 people have died.

On Saturday, Hlabisa convened an urgent Inter-Governmental Committee on Disaster to discuss the state of the provinces.

“We are going to activate all three spheres of government, local municipalities, provincial and national. We need to reprioritise our budgets in order to intervene in these communities, so that life can go back to normal or even better than what it had been,” says Hlabisa
