Limpopo man abandons bail app for killing and mutilating his mother

The family members of an 87-year-old Limpopo woman who was hacked to death, allegedly by her 40-year-old son, have welcomed the accused’s decision to remain in custody.

The accused, Lesiba Ledwaba, has abandoned his bail application at the Seshego Magistrates’ Court outside Polokwane.

The elderly woman, Raesibe Ledwaba, was hacked and dismembered at Sebora village, Ga-Mashashane.

Family spokesperson, Gloria Mokatse, says they want the accused to be sentenced to life imprisonment,

“We urge parents to love their children, but not hesitate to take action against them when they are being abusive. People must speak out, especially when their own children threaten to kill them or assault them. Believe them when they make such threats and seek help until justice is served,” says Mokatse.

Meanwhile, a civil organisation, Itekoleng Batšofe Ba Seshego, is calling on elderly people to speak out and report any abuse.

The organisation’s spokesperson, Johanna Matli says, “We are deeply hurt as elderly people. It’s sad that we often remain silent when abused, allowing the situation to escalate out of proportion. We must report any form of abuse and break the silence.”
