Limpopo hospital discharges initiates due to capacity challenges


The Limpopo’s Traditional Affairs department says the 21 initiates who had been admitted at George Masebe Hospital following alleged botched circumcisions have been discharged due to capacity challenges at the facility.

The initiates were from Lesodi and Rantlakana initiation schools.

Department spokesperson Amos Phago however says that five were re-circumcised at the hospital while 16 others will be taken from the initiation school to Mokopane Hospital on Monday.

“Only five initiates were attended to and released on the 11th of July 2025, for the one-day procedure due to capacity challenges at George Masebe hospital. The remaining 16 initiates were returned to the respective initiation schools and will be taken to Mokopane Hospital on Monday the 14 of July 2025, MEC Makamu will be visiting the affected schools early next week for first-hand account of what transpired.”
