Limpopo govt on a pet vaccination drive against rabies in Thohoyandou

Limpopo’s Agriculture department says three people have died from rabies in the Thohoyandou area in the past three months.

Member of the Executive Council (MEC), Nakedi Kekana, has started a campaign to vaccinate dogs and cats in Sibasa and Thohoyandou in the Vhembe District.

Kekana says they’ve already vaccinated 11,000 dogs and cats.

The MEC is calling on people to ensure their pets are vaccinated.

“We have vaccinated more than 11,000 cats and dogs through the assistance of traditional leaders. Our clinics work hard to ensure that when community members are infected with rabies they get rapid treatment from the clinic. Unfortunately, we have had fatalities. We are going to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” says Kekana.
