Education authorities in Limpopo believe that they will surpass previous pass rates by exceeding the 80-percent threshold in the 2024 matric results.

The matric pass rate in the province has been steadily increasing over the past few years. The results will be announced next week.

MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, “When we prepared for the trial examination, we were targeting 80-percent and above you’ll know that when we started to analysis our results, we were at 83% and that gave us strength to be able to plan better, also we a have to acknowledge the work and the investment that the teachers and the learners did. They did the camps. Other learners, other schools and other circuits when they were writing exams, they were still, so that then they give support to the learners.”

Learner organisation, COSAS, believes that the results might see an improvement as the Education Department has improved supporting structures.

COSAS spokesperson, Shirley Ngoato, “In terms of the matric results of the year 2024, we cannot say it will go beyond 80-percent but we have got hope that at least it will reach approximately 80-percent. More especially, looking at the fact that we see how education has been at this particular province even seen that at least the Department of Education had improved some of the things that will help learner to excess more knowledge.”
