Limpopo dry weather conditions causing havoc for small-scale farmers

1 minute

Small-scale livestock farmers in Limpopo have suffered financial losses due to prolonged dry weather conditions across the province.

These include Senwabarwana, Dzumeri outside Giyani and parts of Thohoyandou.

The farmers have lost livestock due to lack of grazing and water. The provincial government has assisted some communal livestock farmers in Dzumeri.

Farmers Clinton Mashele and Maria Manyama, say the situation is worsening.

“We faced drought for the past six months and for the past ten years we have been facing the same thing but we never had a drought like this since I was born. I have never seen something like this when you go up and down, you see cattle dying and even now they are still dying.

Another farmer says “Our cows have died. There is not enough water for them and food, we are pleading for help from the Department of Agriculture to save our cattle.”
