Social media influencer Livhuwani Madadzhe seen in the dock during a court appearance.
The High Court in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, is expected to hand down sentence in a fraud case involving local social media influencer and comedian, Livhuwani Madadzhe.
Madadzhe has already pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud. He faked his mother’s death in 2017 and unlawfully claimed insurance money.
The sentencing was postponed in December after his legal representatives withdrew from the case due to non-payment of legal fees.
Madadzhe went as far as erecting a tombstone at a village graveyard to support the false claim that his mother was deceased.
He successfully claimed money from one funeral policy but failed in a second attempt with a major bank. His sister had alerted the bank that their mother was still alive.
A Department of Home Affairs official has also been implicated in the matter for allegedly assisting with the falsification of death records.
Madadzhe is also facing a separate charge of murder linked to the death of his partner, Lindelani Nengovhela.
She was killed and her body dumped in a pond behind their house at Mangodi-Sidou village outside Thohoyandou three years ago.
The murder trial is ongoing and yet to be finalised.
