A Limpopo athlete, who is running a distance of 448 km from Pretoria to Thohoyandou to highlight the challenges of Gender-based Violence and drug abuse, says he is anticipating that he would qualify for the Olympic Games in Italy in 2026.
Twenty-six-year-old Pfano Ungedzani began his journey in Pretoria last Sunday. He has since passed Polokwane heading towards Louis Trichardt.
He says the campaign will also strengthen his resolve to qualify for the Olympics.
“I am only left with 3 seconds to qualify for the Olympic Games. For now, I am focusing on long long-distance race. I am hoping that in 2026 I will be able to qualify for the Olympic Gamesm,” he says.

Meanwhile, his physiotherapist Tondani Mutshelwa says Ungedzani is still fit to complete his journey to Thohoyandou by Friday.
“For now, the support that we can ask from the people out there is accommodation and food and then we are asking for support for Pfano Ungedzani for running takkies, and then we have a problem when we are moving, taking the pictures for live streaming; we don’t have data,” says Mutshelwa.
