Limpopo ANC threatens to remove incompetent mayors, councillors

The African National Congress (ANC) in Limpopo has threatened to remove incompetent mayors and councillors in the province’s municipalities.

This is one of the resolutions taken during a meeting by the party’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC).

The ANC has so far announced the removal of three full-time councillors in the Makhado, Mogalakwena and Letaba municipalities.

Party secretary Reuben Madadzhe says all municipalities have been given a deadline to submit reports on the stalled projects for performance assessments.

“Stalled projects are we likely to see removal of the mayors. I can’t pre-empt the report. I will wait for that report where there is laziness from our deployees to supervise their municipalities and their workers. Decisions are going to be made.”

Corruption allegations against Polokwane mayor

Meanwhile, the party says it would not be drawn to comment on reports of alleged corruption against Polokwane Executive Mayor, John Mpe.

Mpe has been accused of awarding tenders to his associates and foreign nationals, as well as getting kickbacks through his Makoro Foundation from the contractors.

The party however says the meeting did not discuss allegations against Mpe.

Madadzhe says they will comment once there is a formal report before the PEC.

Mpe says he will not give any comment on the investigations by the Hawks as the matter is already before court.
