Crowds protest following the murder of 14-year-old Lukhina Fose.
The family of Likhona Fose says while they accept the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court decision to grant bail to the man accused of her murder, they wish he remained behind bars while investigations continue.
They say all they want is justice for their child. Their comments come after the court granted Mduduzi Mnisi bail of R5,000.
Fourteen-year-old Fose went missing on May 31 in Durban Deep, Roodepoort in Johannesburg. Her mutilated body was discovered not far from her home in bushes the next day.
At the time of his arrest, Mnisi was on parole for a 2009 robbery and attempted murder case.
Fose’s grandfather, Thozamile Mlenze says, “We had hoped that he would remain in custody while investigations continue. However, we still accept the court’s decision because our main priority, as a family, is to eventually uncover the truth about who killed our child. We are not accusing anyone, but we trust the police to do their work. Even the person who was arrested was taken in by the authorities. All we want is justice and for the person responsible for this crime to be held accountable.”
