Politician Liam Jacobs
The DA says Liam Jacobs has ceased to be a member, despite him not yet formally handing in his resignation letter.
The DA says his association with the Patriotic Alliance means his membership has automatically lapsed.
DA spokesperson Karabo Khakhau says, “The democratic alliance has not yet received a resignation from Liam Jacobs. As per our Constitution, it requires that a moment a person appears in a video that seeks to promote another political party or bandit with another political party, that calls for immediate cessation, so his membership has immediately been cessated.

‘The chairperson of the federal council of the Democratic Alliance, that is Mme Helen Zille, has accordingly informed the Speaker that Liam is no longer a member of the party and consequently no longer a member of the National Assembly on behalf of the party.”
Meanwhile, Political analyst Sandile Swana says the departure of black leaders within the DA indicates that there are racial tensions within the party.
“The departure of Liam from the DA comes at a time when we know the coloured communities have felt neglected in the ANC and also in the DA. The departure of PAC stalwart Patricia de Lille signifies that as well and the departure of black leaders, quality black leaders Mmusi Maimane, Herman Mashaba, Mazibuko, many others, high quality leaders, who at later times termed to point out that there are racial tensions within the DA.”
