The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for Level 2 for severe thunderstorms across Gauteng. This could lead to localised flooding and damage to infrastructure.

Residents are urged to stay indoors if possible and when outdoors, not to seek shelter under isolated trees or tall objects and avoid crossing flooded low-lying roads, bridges and swollen streams.

“Residents are urged to be safe, avoid crossing river streams when conducting daily activities. Our motorists are also urged to exercise caution while driving, avoid crossing flooded roads and low lying bridges. From our side as the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, we remain on high alert, monitoring all seven regions of the city for any water related emergencies that might occur,” says Johannesburg Emergency Management Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.
