Letter claims two Samro board members booted out

Amid ongoing tensions at the South African Music Rights Organisation (Samro), a letter is circulating to members stating that two board members have been booted out. Earlier this week, Samro defended the return of three publishers listed in the Fundudzi Forensic Report, following the Extraordinary General meeting end of August.

The report flagged fraudulent activities amounting to R3,4 million. However, Samro said at the media briefing the three board members were reinstated after majority of their members voted to have them back.

Samro Member Tebogo Sethathu says they are yet to see what’s contained in the forensic report.

“The two so-called independent directors are gone. They have been voted out. Let’s be clear. They did not resign, they were booted out by the power of the vote within the board and and thank you, to our composer, board members who have been sitting and working from the inside whilst we were working on the outside. We are 50% towards our goal. The board still forms a quantum because of the retained soldiers. The power publishers that were reinstated, we will deal with that later. we still have to lay our beautiful hands on that Funduzi forensic report, which these guys have been refusing to have it released, including the CEO and the CFO. So we want that report.”
