Gauteng Premier and Co-Convenor of the ANC Provincial Task Team, Panyaza Lesufi has urged party members to safeguard the alliance with the SACP.
This follows the SACP’s announcement that it plans to contest the 2026 elections independently under a reconfigured alliance.
Speaking at the ANC’s Johannesburg regional conference in Sandton, Lesufi warned that internal differences must not weaken or collapse the partnership.
“One area comrades that we are urging you, is that you must not allow the differences of the ANC and SACP to collapse the alliance. We may differ but the alliance must remain. The problem that SACP has with ANC must be attended and be resolved, and the problem that the ANC is having with the communist party must be attended and resolved. There must be no one who must stand on the public platform and say it’s the end of the alliance.”
