Lenasia residents to meet Joburg officials over water crisis

1 minute

Representatives of residents of Lenasia will meet with City of Johannesburg officials again today to discuss their water situation. On Tuesday the City’s technicians were in the area to deal with illegal water connections. This led to a community protest.

Last night, angry residents closed a section of the Golden Highway and looted some shops.

They say the single truck that has been supplying water is not enough for the entire community.

Community leader Fanelwa Mooi says they hope today’s meeting will yield positive results.

“So Golden Highway was being shut down, stones and some looting took place amongst other shops, but some members of the communities also tried to protect the centre which we have – Shoprite. This is the current situation that is happening still we don’t have, we don’t have anything, so we just praying that this meeting that is going to take place now at least we will come up with a solution towards this crisis of water,” Mooi adds.
