Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, says there might be a need for legislative amendments to address the issue of illegal foreigners in the country.
This follows recent developments where Operation Dudula is refusing foreign nationals access to public medical facilities.
Speaking during a media briefing by the Social Services Cluster Committees in Parliament, Dhlomo says some of the relevant immigration laws are vague in their definitions.
“Some of these acts are very wide and encompassing what some of the people in their views are saying maybe they should a bit of limitation. We would have but it’s not possible for us as a country to have unlimited resources to deal with what is there in the world. However, the engagement with Dudula and other stakeholders is to say, while your concerns are coming in from this background because it’s true that they sometimes look at clinics and hospitals where there is not enough medication but a long queue.”
