Legal future of Mkhwebane hangs in the balance

1 minute

The legal future of impeached former Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane hangs in the balance as the Legal Practice Council seeks to have Mkhwebane struck from the roll of advocates.

If the council is successful, this means that Advocate Mkhwebane, who is now an MK party Member of Parliament (MP), will no longer be entitled to practice law or offer legal advice to clients.

Mkhwebane was removed from office in September 2023 after 318 MPs in the national assembly voted in favour of her removal.

This followed a section 194 inquiry into her fitness to hold office which upheld the charges of misconduct and incompetence against her.
