Learners hospitalised after scholar transport crash in Ekurhuleni

Emergency services in Ekurhuleni have confirmed that three learners have been hospitalised following a crash involving their scholar transport and a light motor vehicle.

EMS Spokesperson William Ntladi says rescue teams were dispatched to the scene this morning to render assistance.

“A scholar transporter, a Toyota Quantum and a light motor vehicle, a VW sedan, were involved in a crash this morning at Kingfisher Avenue in Germiston, resulting in three scholars being hospitalised. Six others escaped with no injuries, including the drivers of both vehicles. The call was received this morning, and rescue teams from Wadeville Fire Station were activated.”

Vaal crash

Just yesterday, 12 learners passed away in a head-on collision in Vanderbijlpark in the Vaal after the minibus-taxi they were travelling in collided with a truck.

Several other learners as well as the driver of the minibus-taxi were injured.

The driver has since been arrested after he was discharged from hospital last night.

He is facing charges of 12 counts of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving.
