Tomorrow is a rest day for the drivers.
South Africa’s Henk Lategan and navigator Brett Cummings of Toyota Gazoo Racing had a day they would rather forget and surrendered their overall lead in the Dakar Rally.
The duo got lost 13 kilometres into stage nine from Riyadh to Haradh in Saudi Arabia and suffered two punctures, eventually finishing the stage in 11th place.
Having started the stage with a lead of 5 min and 41 seconds, they are now in second place, just more than seven minutes behind local hero Yazeed Al Rajhi and his German navigator, Timo Gottschalk of Team Overdrive Racing.
The stage, over a total distance of 589 kilometres, was won by former champion Nasser Al-Attiyah of Saudi Arabia and his French navigator Edouard Boulanger in one of the Dacia Sandriders, with Guillaume de Mevius of Belgium and Mathieu Baumel of France in a Mini in second place.
Al Rajhi and Gottschalk crossed the finish line in third place.
The rally ends on Friday.
