KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma speaks at an event on October 29, 2024.
KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma is expected to meet with leaders of the All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied South Africa (ATDF-ASA) whose members are striking today.
The ATDF-ASA, which represents the interests of truck drivers has for years raised concerns over the hiring of foreign nationals in the freight and logistics industry.
They are also unhappy about some employers who are not adhering to the minimum wage policy.
KZN Transport Department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya says, “We wish to indicate that yesterday we had an informal meeting with the leadership of All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied SA. Our belief as the department is that no issue is above the collective wisdom.”
Sibiya says, “A formal meeting is, therefore, being planned with ATDF-ASA to discuss issues of mutual interest. This meeting is being coordinated by the Head of the Department, Siboniso Mbhele. Importantly, we are fully aware that matters that have been raised by truck drivers are managed by the national government as they relate to the employment of foreign truck drivers.”
All Truck Drivers Forum and Allied SA (ATDF-ASA) planned meeting with Duma.
