KZN to declare Mangosuthu Buthelezi’s resting place a heritage site

The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government will launch the resting place of the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi as a provincial heritage site tomorrow in Ulundi.

KZN Premier, Thami Ntuli, will preside over the event.

Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, who was the founder the Inkatha Freedom Party(IFP) in 1975, played numerous roles during his time in active politics.

He served as the AmaZulu Traditional Prime Minister for over six decades working closely with different monarchs.

Buthelezi was also one of the longest serving members of the National Assembly.

The Provincial Department of Arts and Culture Spokesperson, Ntando Mnyandu, says the establishment of a provincial heritage site is part of efforts to preserve Prince Buthelezi’s legacy.

“You would know that Prince Mangosuthu’s legacy speaks for itself as he was the founder and president of the Inkatha Freedom Party who later became the president emeritus. He was very instrumental in the founding and the establishment of Mangosuthu University of Technology in Umlazi and Ithala Bank and a lot of industrial areas in the province of KZN,” says Mnyandu.
