KZN RTI praised for arrest of a govt official allegedly breaking traffic laws

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma has commended the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) team from Park Rynie for arresting a senior government official for allegedly breaking several traffic laws.

The official who was stopped by members of the RTI attempted to evade arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol, which led to a high-speed chase.

The official was eventually caught and arrested.

Police found another intoxicated man inside the state vehicle, as well as a 17-year-old girl.

The official faces charges including drunk driving, reckless driving, failing to stop and possession of a firearm while under the influence.

The department’s spokesperson, Ndabezinhle Sibiya says, “The MEC for Transport and Human Settlements, Siboniso Duma would like to see the senior government official convicted, that’s number one; number two, he would like to see the disciplinary processes being undertaken and he has also indicated that the abuse of state vehicles is something that we must deal with as a matter of urgency.”
