KZN pupils to swim 41km to raise funds for Gaza

Learners from the Hartley Road Primary School in Durban will swim for 41km to raise funds for the people of war-torn Gaza.

The 41km distance is the length of the Gaza Strip.

The event will take place on November 24 at Midmar Dam in KwaZulu-Natal.

All proceeds raised from the initiative will be donated to the Africa Muslims Agency, a humanitarian organisation that has been assisting Palestinians during the ongoing war.

One of the school’s teachers, Firdous Vally says, “Just a normal morning doing PE (Physical Education) with my girls out on the field and I turned to the other teacher, asked her what is the length of Gaza, and she said around 41km. I said our girls are swimming capital K (Open Water Swim), let’s take this to good use, so she said let’s do it and see what we can do, and that’s where it starts, literally out there on the bench watching the girls run.”
