KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has officially endorsed provincial Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi for a second term.
Ntuli says the decision was taken following a meeting with National Commissioner Fannie Masemola.
Mkhwanazi’s term of office was due to end on March 30 this year.
Ntuli has expressed confidence in Mkhwanazi’s leadership.
The Premier’s spokesperson, Lindelani Mbatha says, “The Premier of KZN, Honourable Thamsanqa Ntuli, further emphasised the critical importance of continuity of leadership, particularly at the time when sustained and consistent efforts are required to consolidate the gains achieved in the fight against crime.”
“Premier Ntuli reiterated that Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi’s discipline and strong work ethics and commitment to ethical and accountable policing are fully aligned with the values and expectations of the provincial government and the people of KZN. The Premier reaffirmed the provincial government’s full support for the renewal of General Mkhwanazi’s contract, noting that this decision will inspire renewed hope and confidence among all residents of KwaZulu-Natal.”
