The police in KwaZulu-Natal are appealing to anyone with information about the murder of eight people in Umlazi to come forward.
Twelve people were shot at the Zamani Transit camp in Umlazi, south of Durban, on Friday evening.
Eight died on the scene while the surviving four were taken to hospital for treatment.
A task team has been established to lead the investigation.
“Investigations into the killing of eight people at Zama informal settlement at U Section in Umlazi on Friday evening are underway. The Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit detectives are putting together pieces of evidence and obtaining statements. The early signs are encouraging and the investigating team is following promising leads. Police are appealing to anyone who might have information which may assist in the investigation to anonymously tip off the police via our crime stop number 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS App,” says Provincial Police Spokesperson Robert Netshiunda in a statement.

Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has condemned the killing of the eight people, six men and two women, in Umlazi, south of Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to the police, the victims were inside a dwelling at the Zama informal settlement when an unknown number of suspects entered and opened fire, killing all of them at the scene.
