The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Transport has warned motorists that they have until November 30 to switch to the new vehicle licence system.
The provincial Transport Department introduced the new numbering system to address a shortage of numbers and to align KZN with the national numbering system.
KZN Transport spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya has urged motorists to visit their nearest licencing offices to change their old number plates.

Sibiya says failure to do this will result in motorists being fined for violating the National Road Traffic Act, after November 30.
Sibiya further states that the MEC has appealed to motorists to transition from the old number plates to the new number plates, emphasising that the deadline for the migration is the end of November.
“After the 30th of November, motorists will be fined as the license number will be deemed invalid. MEC warns motorists to move with speed and deal with migration, and we are urging motorists to visit the nearest licensing offices where they can do the actual transition,” adds Sibiya.
