Commuters jump into a taxi.
The KwaZulu-Natal Transport and Human Settlements MEC Siboniso Duma and the striking Durban Long-Distance Taxi Association, have reached an agreement to end the week-long strike that left commuters stranded.
The taxi operators lamented the impounding of their taxis, as well as the slow process of issuing permits.

Duma says the taxis will resume operations on Sunday morning.
“We’ve just agreed that tomorrow [Sunday], they’ll be working. Tomorrow, they’ll start in the morning. This involves different associations. We’ve met [with] Long Distance Association. Today we met Durban Long-Distance Taxi Association, and they are all agreeing at this point in time that the best interest for our people to be taken (sic). The tourism industry will be shattered if the long distance is not being serviced properly. We’ve agreed amongst other principles, that we’re going to form a team from their side and our side- that is going to work on a regular basis, just to fast track the process of permits,” explains Duma.
