The Durban Long-Distance Taxi Association has resumed operations. Its members embarked on a week-long strike which left many commuters stranded. KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Siboniso Duma announced the resumption of operations after marathon talks with taxi associations on Saturday.
He says they have agreed to form a task team that will meet regularly to address arising challenges.
“Let’s first announce officially that we have both agreed and reached a consensus that tomorrow (08/12) they are back at work and they will start loading. I am sure it’s good news for our people and we want to apologise profusely for the inconveniennce as a result of that. We have agreed that they are going to come back and consolidate on the strategy in ensuring that they collect rank stands and they collect permits. We have assembled the team of five from our department and from their side which is going to meet on a regular basis so that we fine tune everything and I am sure these everlasting solutions are going to assist.”
