KZN father gets 4 life sentences for raping his own children

A 49-year-old man from Hluhluwe in KwaZulu-Natal has been sentenced to four life terms for raping his four biological children. The man was found guilty and sentenced by the Eshowe Regional Court.

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says the abuse occurred while the children and their mother lived with the man.

The mother reported the case but died before the trial, prompting the prosecutor to apply for her statements to be admitted into evidence under Section 3 of the Hearsay Evidence Act.

NPA Regional spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara explains, “The offences took place between 2015 and 2019, the children were aged between 2 and 8 years old at the time. In addition, the court ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders, and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

“An aggravating factor is that the accused was their father, who should have been their protector; instead, he became their perpetrator,” adds Ramkisson-Kara.
