Pholela Special School in KZN
The KwaZulu-Natal Education Department says the severe hailstorm that impacted Pholela Special School and surroundings in Bulwer last night, did not affect the marking process of the 2025 matric exam papers.
The school is used as one of the marking centres in the Harry Gwala District.
The extreme weather conditions resulted in extensive damage to parts of the school infrastructure and vehicles of the marking personnel.
The department’s spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi is urging all marking centres across the province to remain vigilant as adverse and unpredictable weather patterns persist.
“The MEC for education in KZN has issued a statement sympathising with the markers at the Pholela Special School in Bulwer whose cars were destroyed by the heavy storms. The MEC has echoed his sympathy. He also acknowledge dedication and the sacrifice that the markers have made. It is unfortunate what happened to their property,” adds Mahlambi.
