The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Education Department spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi says they are investigating a complaint that a teacher at KwaPata Secondary School at Edendale outside Pietermaritzburg allegedly touched a girl at the school inappropriately.
The incident allegedly took place in front of other learners during a Mathematics Literacy period last Friday.
It’s alleged the teacher touched the girl on her buttocks and thighs.
It sparked a student protest on Monday that brought all school activities to a standstill. Mahlambi says the department will deal decisively with the teacher if he is found guilty.
“The Department of Education in KwaZulu-Natal, we are investigating allegations of a teacher that inappropriately touched a female learner from KwaPata High School in Mgungundlovu District. We are frowning very strongly to these allegations. We will dig deep and if found guilty, we will have no mercy in dealing with this matter.”
