KZN disaster teams on alert for more storms


Disaster management teams are on high alert in KwaZulu-Natal following a Yellow Level two warning for severe thunderstorms, in areas on the north-western parts of the province.

The severe weather patterns are expected to be accompanied by heavy rainfall, damaging winds and large hail which could also lead to localized flooding of roads and damage to infrastructure.

Areas likely to be affected are uMzinyathi, uThukela, Harry Gwala and Amajuba districts.

The provincial Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Department’s spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila, “CoGTA MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi has placed all disaster management teams on high alert, the weather conditions could lead to hail, strong winds, heavy rain which could cause disruptions. MEC Buthelezi is urging communities to take heed to the weather warnings, those that are driving to drive with caution. The MEC is also urging residents not to cross flooded walkways or low-lying bridges,” says Mzila.
