Disaster management teams remain on high alert following a Yellow Level 4 warning for severe thunderstorms over most parts of KZN.
The Weather Service says the storms are expected to be most severe in southern parts of the province, bringing heavy downpours, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning.
The conditions could lead to flooding, damage to infrastructure and dangerous travel conditions.
Spokesperson for the provincial Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) Department, Senzelwe Mzila, is urging residents to remain vigilant.
“The MEC for COGTA Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has placed all of our teams on high alert. These teams are working closely with social partners and communities to ensure that these weather conditions do not pose any risk to human lives, as these weather conditions are expected to be severe. The areas that are expected to be affected, it’s with areas within the uGu district, Harry Gwala district, and parts of the uThukela and uMgungundlovu district.”
