KZN addressing AG audit outcomes: Speaker

Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Legislature Nontembeko Boyce says they are now revisiting plans to turn around audit outcomes flagged by the Auditor-General in the provincial government.

The Auditor-General found that key departments in the province recorded millions in unauthorized spending. These include the Departments of Health and Education.

Boyce say they are now going to enforce oversight and assist portfolio committees with training, so they can interrogate reports from departments.

“We are worried. If you heard the Chairpersons of Committees speaking because we have had that session. We went to them and said when there is a situation like this this it means there is an issue with their department and there is no oversight that is effective from the committee,” says Boyce.

She says they are worried as there are other matters beyond that they speak to other matters, at a national level.
