Kraaifontein double murder weapon found in Spaza shop: Police

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola says a firearm allegedly used in two of the three double murders in Kraaifontein in Cape Town has been found in the possession of three foreign nationals in a spaza shop in the area.

They have been arrested for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The arrests came hours after six people were gunned down in three separate double murders in the area on Tuesday night.

Two women aged 19 and 25 were shot and killed, and another person was injured in one incident in Wallacedene.

Within about 10 minutes, another two women in their 20s were shot and killed nearby.

The bodies of two men aged 20 and 22 were also found in another area in Kraaifontein.

Masemola says the motive for the shootings is under investigation and more arrests have not been ruled out.

“We did get intelligence as to who the suspect is because people have seen him. We have sufficient evidence that links him to the crime. So, we did that and hunted for him and arrested him. And we looked for the firearm and couldn’t find it, and further intelligence told us that he doesn’t keep the firearm in the house he keeps it at a spaza shop somewhere and we  did find the firearm where the intelligence said the firearms is, and that’s where the arrest of the  foreign nationals comes in because the firearm was not in this 49-year-old possession.”
