The community of Bloekombos in Kraaifontein say they are still in shock following the fatal shooting of the principal of Ekuthuleni Primary.

The 54-year-old was shot in his car on Thursday and his wife was wounded.

Counselling is being provided to affected people and learners.

“This is not the first person to die at the same spot on this street around the same time. This time I heard the shots inside the shop, I can’t even face anybody because we don’t know who is next,” says one of the residents.

Another resident says, “What happened here yesterday really shocked us as the community of Bloekombos. We did not expect this to happen to our principal because he is a man who is well known and loved in the community. We would like the police to up their protection because we do not feel safe.”

Meanwhile, the Western Cape Education Department has strongly condemned the murder of the school principal.

“This is a terrible tragedy for the school and community, and we offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and school community. Our district teams are on the ground providing counselling support and we trust that SAPS will leave no stones unturned in apprehending the perpetrator,” says department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond.
